In Short
  • Visual Lookup can be accessed from the Photos app and other Apple apps.
  • Tap on the i or star icon to open Visual Lookup.
  • Use the Live Text feature to extract and copy text from images on iPhone.

Method 1: From the Photos App

  1. Open any photo in the Apple Photos app.
  2. Tap on the i icon at the bottom, or the icon might have changed to the object in the image, such as a cat, dog, plant, etc.
  3. Tap on Look up [Object name] to access Visual Lookup results.

Pro Tip: You may also long-press on the object in the picture and select Look up to use the Look Up feature.

Method 2: From Apps Like Messages, Notes, and Mail

  1. In the preferred app, tap on the image once to open it in full-screen view.
  2. Tap on the i icon or the object icon at the bottom or top to see the results of the Visual Lookup feature.

Bonus Method 3: Use Live Text to Extract Text From Pictures

The above methods will only identify objects in a picture. They cannot be used for extracting text. For that, use the Live Text feature as shown below:

1. Copy Text From a Picture in Photos and Other Apps

  1. Open the picture with text in the Apple Photos app.
  2. Tap on the Scanner icon at the bottom right (or at the top) to identify the text.
  3. Then, select the text you need and use the appropriate option from the pop-up menu, such as Copy, Translate, Share, etc.

2. Copy Text from a Picture Using the Camera App

You can also extract text in real time from pictures using the Camera app. Point the Camera towards the picture or document and tap the Scanner icon. Then, select the text and copy it.

Tip: Know the meaning of other icons in the Camera app.
